Robbie Keane tight-lipped on future but hints at Championship return

Ireland’s record goalscorer also says he’s ‘knocked back’ a couple of job offers already.

DESPITE SHAMROCK ROVERS being third favourites for his signature, it would appear that the Championship in England is the most likely next destination for Robbie Keane.

Keane, out of work since parting ways with LA Galaxy at the end of his contract late last year, has been linked with clubs in Ireland, China, Australia and England.

And it appears a move across the Irish Sea is the most likely destination for the 36-year-old.

Speaking to Jim White on Talksport, Keane also said distance played a role in his thought process.

“(Watch) this space, the next couple of weeks and we’ll see what happens. I’ve had a couple of offers from England and abroad.

I’ve had to knock back a couple because it was too far away.

“I’ve got a few offers on the table. I have a lot of people asking are you coming back to Leeds, Wolves, etc.

“But you can’t go somewhere where there is not an offer. I definitely haven’t heard from Leeds or Wolves.

“There are a few Championship clubs who I don’t want to mention at the moment,” he added.

Preston North End remain favourites for the former Inter Milan and Liverpool striker.
